Surface Preparation:

We begin by examining the concrete surface for any holes or cracks that need to be patched. The holes are filled with concrete patch compounds at least twenty-four to forty eight hours before grinding the concrete.

Grinding Methods: Wet and Dry

There are two types of grinding methods: wet grinding and dry grinding. When dry grinding, a vacuum is used to extract the dust from the floor, while wet grinding implements water in the process and the magnetic discs rotate grinding the floor. The wet grinding process typically results in more of a mess but reduces the friction. We typically use the dry grinding method first and then finish with the wet grinding method to provide a high sheen to the floors.

Equipment & Tooling: Concrete Floor Grinders & Diamond Abrasives

Concrete floor grinders are used for grinding the concrete and are fitted with different diamond grit abrasives. The grit level is increased the coarser they are (30, 50 and 80 grit discs to the finer 100, 400 and 800 grit discs). The grit level can be increased up to 3000 grit discs for providing ultra-swank luster to concrete. The procedure is started with coarser grits to get rid of small holes or lighter stains and then is carried upon with finer grits for more smoothing. The coarser grit is made up to three or four rounds for making the concrete ready for fine polishing. The finer grits will result in ultra smooth and polished concrete surfaces. To prevent the floors from attracting dust and becoming rough again, high quality concrete hardeners are applied to the surfaces. For grinding new concrete surfaces, we may wait about less than a month to let it dry completely and cure properly.
